Zodiac Review

I watched Zodiac Thursday night. Super violent. Suspenseful. Realistic (as far as I can tell). As a bonus they threw in Gooseman as the cop's partner and even velcroed down more hair on him than he had in Top Gun. I'd probably give it an 8/10 kind of a rating but I don't really bother with those things.

I'm looking at cameras and the choice of camera is currently narrowed down to a Sony DSC-W55 and the Canon A570IS. The IS stands for image stabilization which from previous experience may be a good option for my shots.

I looked up my Sony digital camera and found it easily. The only thing is the solution for my problem was listed as buying a new camera. Bad deal. This site seems pretty good though if you want to try to fix your own stuff. I also noticed when I looked up my camera they had a pdf of the owner's manual which could be pretty handy.

“Lars is a good friend of mine. He played me the demos from San Francisco, and I turned and looked at him and I said, ‘Master that shit and put it out.’ It’s ridiculous. The demos were sick. Eight-minute songs, all these tempo changes, crazy fast. It’s like, ‘Dude, don’t get slower when you get older, but don’t get faster!? How are you gonna play this live?’ And then me and Lars were out partying all night, and he had to go in the studio the next day and do this stupid like nine or ten minute song, and I was laughing at him — because he played me the demo of it, and it was [sings really fast drum part], so fast. I called him, and said, ‘Dude, how are you feeling?’ He was like, ‘Dude, I’m hurting.’ They’re cutting everything to tape, no fuckin’ Pro Tools — live, no clicks. Bitchin’. I dig it. I’m really excited for them.”

I realize he says that he is a friend of Lars but this could be good news. Just don't go to crazy in the studio cleaning it up.

Homme and Anger Management

Chris Lee of the Los Angeles Times reports: If you really want to hear about it, Josh Homme, creative mastermind behind QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, will tell you about his temper — about the three separate court-ordered sessions of anger-management classes he had to take and their effect on his life. "I learned nothing through anger management," Homme said flatly, seated earlier this month in a tequila bottle-strewn North Hollywood studio that reeked of stale marijuana.

With a little prodding, Homme (rhymes with "mommy") will admit he is still on probation after pleading no contest to two counts of battery against Blag Dahlia, the lead singer of a punk outfit called the DWARVES. It happened at the Dragonfly club in Hollywood three years ago; an incident Homme regrets not one iota.

"I went there to attack and humiliate him," he said. "That's what I did."

A wrap up of the last week

I found out from the bank that my credit was destroyed by an old account's service fees. I was told that there will probably be a strike in Vancouver that will cause the cancellation of the QOTSA concert I have bought tickets for. I went to work Friday and I was told for the third time from the same company that they were going to lay me off because there is a strike that will affect business. I went to my sister's birthday dinner Saturday and went to take a picture and my camera was broken. All in all, not a good week. Hoping this week is a tad better.

New igoogle window

You can add any webpage into a tab on igoogle if that's what you're into. I've put a QOTSA tab and a Google reader tab on mine. If you want to try it, create a new tab, then check out this link igoogle window
In the settings you can point the page to any page you want but it covers any other gadgets you have on the page so do it in a new tab. It's pretty sweet if you want to just log in to igoogle and not have a bunch of other things going on.

Puscifer news - It's Maynard

TOOL frontman Maynard James Keenan recently spoke to RollingStone.com about his new recording project, PUSCIFER. According to Keenan, PUSCIFER 'is my attempt to make music to inspire people. Heavy rock is sinking, the industry is dying. This is definitely not thinking man's music, but groove-oriented music that makes you feel good.'

Keenan describes PUSCIFER as 'more of a collaboration' than a group. Contributors include PRIMUS drummer Tim Alexander, guitarist-soundscaper Jonny Polonsky and, on vocals, Lisa Germano and actress Milla Jovovich. And Keenan says the music could end up as more than just an album, which he expects to issue in October. 'I'd like to release it in different ways — maybe two songs at a time, every three or four months. You can do that now, with the Internet and MySpace. In a way, I feel like I'm standing in two places at once. I have my right foot in then, and my left foot on to the next stage.'

5. The Elvis and Jack Mysteries - This animated show goes way back to the first .com crash, but it’s still online, and it’s still awesome. The concept? Before Elvis Presley and golfer Jack Nicklaus were legends in their respective fields…they were crime fighting friends. This show has a theme song so catchy I have been randomly singing it for most of this century. This is the only show on the list not currently in production.

4.Port City PD - a low budget cop show featuring a talented cast, and an interesting storyline - it’s Miami Vice for the Internet age. The show is wrapping up its first season now, but expect more episodes in the future. Warning: Foul Language and Adult Situations.

3. Clark and Michael - Clark and Michael are trying to sell their sitcom, and watching them do it is funny as all hell. Michael Cera for Arrested Development and Superbad fame is the “Michael” of this duo and he and Clark play off each other so well you actually believe in and root for, these two under dog characters.

2. Derek & Simon: The Show - Did you ever wonder what a show directed by Bob from Mr. Show would be like if it was about two guys kinda doin’ nothing of importance? Well wonder no more my friend, because that show is a reality and it is called Derek & Simon: The Show. This show is finely crafted absurdist humor at it’s very best. You’ll also find Michael Cera in a particularly entertaining episode of this show, playing the role of a bouncer. Warning: Foul Language and Adult Situations.

1. Break a Leg - This show is my favorite show that isn’t on a major network. I just love the hell out of it. It’s the story of David Penn, a writer who just got his first sitcom deal…which didn’t turn out to be everything he expected. Besides the normal stuff that you’d run into with producing a sitcom with no money, David also has to worry about the fact that he’s going to die at the end of the season. The show begins there and David narrates the show as he tells us the story of how he got to that point.

Well acted, well shot, and well produced, “Break a Leg” is a truly independent production that shows us what is capable with a little budget and a lot of talent.

Water from air

There's a lot of water floating around in the air everywhere, and inventor Max Whisson has figured out a way to extract it using Max Water, a wind-powered contraption he named after himself. Max Water uses the concept of condensation, where lower temperature allows less water to hang around in the air, and Whisson says that will amount to 10,000 liters per day dripping from this single rooftop device. Man, that's a lot of water.


Those interested in this device better be mighty thirsty, though, because they'll have to shell out $43,000 for one of these babies. But if you've ever been in a region where there's no water, spending $43K is a whole lot better than dying of thirst. If this idea really works as well as its inventor says it does, economies of scale will make that high price a temporary hurdle. [UberReview]

The plots of KILL BILL 3 and 4 have been shaped and there is a chance director Quentin Tarantino will return to China to shoot them, an executive producer of the first two films said on Friday, according to CRI English.Bennett Walsh said at the Shanghai International Film Festival the third film involves the revenge of two killers whose arms and eyes were hacked by Uma Thurman in the first stories.The fourth instalment of the popular kung fu action films concerns a cycle of reprisals and daughters who avenge their mother's deaths, Hangzhou-based newspaper City Express quoted Bennett as saying.When asked which Chinese director he wants to cooperate with, Walsh said he would most like to work with Jiang Wen, director of Xun Qiang, or "Missing Gun"."I also want to collaborate with younger directors. I believe there are many outstanding young directors in China who have not been brought into the light," Walsh said.
